Design and fabrication of a mechanism to motorize the work of deep well drilling

Abstract

A mechanism to motorize the work of deep well drilling was developed with an aim to reduce the lead time of deep-well drilling, reduce the drilling labor cost, making the drilling process easier through, reducing constant human errors through the mechanization of all core activities among others. Through research on existed mechanisms and review of literature, the preliminary and detailed design were achieved with additional knowledge of product design and development which includes, concept generation and selection, product architecture and embodiment, from which the specifications listed were modified. Using design of machine elements concepts, the required powering and transmission systems were designed meeting the specifications listed and detailed designs and drawings were made using the computer aided design software. In the software, stress analysis of the structure was carried out which implied that the designed parameters would enable the system work without failure. With the results attained from running and testing of the system, more efforts must be put in simplifying its weight structure and incorporation of electronic control systems that will aid on monitoring and guiding the operator and replacement of the winch hand driven lever with a motor.
