dc.description.abstractThe study examines the effect of Communication Channels on awareness about education insurance among university students at the school of Statistics and Planning, Makerere University. The study was based on four specific objectives including to establish the effect of mass media on awareness about education insurance among students, to establish the effect of mid media on awareness about education insurance among students, to establish the effect of print media on awareness about education insurance among students and to establish the effect of social and digital media on awareness about education insurance among students. The study used a cross sectional Survey design with both qualitative and quantitative approaches. Findings from the study revealed that majority of the students have seen adverts about education insurance. Many students revealed that they have been hearing of such adverts every time they put on radios. Based on the findings, it can be concluded that many students have gotten to know more about education insurance through newspapers. Findings revealed that majority of the students at Makerere University School of Planning and Statistics have ever attended workshops or seminars that were educating people about education insurance. Furthermore, majority of the students have seen billboards that have information on education insurance. Lastly, majority of the students have come across notice boards that have information about education insurance. The study further reveals that many students get to know about education insurance through print media such as banners and fliers. It can be concluded that many students see posters with information about education insurance in public places such as buses and taxis among others. Majority of the students conclude that concluded that students read about information on education insurance in magazines. From the study findings, it was revealed that students use several Social and Digital Media channels to know more about education insurance. Students use several social media plat forms including Facebook WhatsApp, Instagram, Twitter and You Tube among others. It can be concluded that many students get to know more about education insurance through internet, students receive emails informing them about education insurance. Study findings reveal that many students get to know about insurance through random texts from insurance companies. The study recommends that several programs educating masses about education insurance must be out on several radio stations to make people more aware about education insurance. The study further recommends that the university should invite all the interested insurance companies to extend sensitization on education insurance. The study recommends that the university through its ICT Department must ensure that internet is readily available for students. The study recommends that more information can be put where students can see it. Information can be displayed on billboards, pamphlets, banners and fliers among others.en_US
