Design and development of company vehicle management system
Abstract
The project’s aim was to design and develop a fleet tracking and monitoring system to improve
the level of supervision and management for the fleet. For reasons related to safety and company
resource optimization, it was imperative to develop a fleet remote monitoring system that is costeffective using GPS, GSM/3G/4G, GIS, computer network telecommunications and data
processing technology.
This system integrates a variety of state sensors (optional depending on the client) and, uses
embedded intelligent terminals based on ARM9 or GPS supported cell phones and other handheld smart devices to obtain the status of the fleet, and achieve real-time acquisition, transmission
and analysis of data in the remote monitoring center. Through dynamic monitoring of the company
fleet, managers can ensure that the vehicles are traveling in accordance with the approved routes
and in good performance conditions.
The system provides powerful management support with a rapid reacting capacity for the
commercial and non-commercial companies, improves logistics handling using information
technology. The Vehicle Management System provides management functions that allow
companies to remove or minimize the risks associated with unmanaged vehicles by companies.
This system is a web-based system that runs on computer systems and is accessed through the web
browser of any choice. The goal of an FMS is to reduce maintenance costs of the vehicles and
optimize usage.
This Vehicle Management system is not restricted to managing the individual vehicle’s live
location but includes the daily management of fuel and maintenance services, drivers, etc. When
it comes to improving efficiency, productivity and reducing the overall costs involved with a
company's fleet it is essential to have this Vehicle Management Software in place. The system
contributes and forms a firm basis of effective Vehicle Management optimizing productivity.
Being able to provide excellent records when it comes to auditing, formulating strategies,
designing and implementing policies, procedures and systems are regarded as a quick and simple
task when one makes use of a good Vehicle Management System.
The goal of this work was to develop a Web-Based Vehicle Management System framework to
enhance Productivity through effective Vehicle management and utilization in a most conducive
manner.
