Determination of the effects of a substitute pH stabilizer on emulsion paints at Kansai Plascon (U) Ltd.
Abstract
The purpose of this study was to study the effects of a substitute pH stabilizer, Sodium Hydroxide on emulsion paints during production and after production. The viability of the substitute pH stabilizer was tested using two Cellulose-based thickeners (HEC), that is, Tylose HS 100000 YP2 and Natrosol 250 and from the results, it was concluded that Sodium Hydroxide can be used as a substitute pH stabilizer. Furthermore, in regard to the thickener, it was also found that Tylose HS 100000 YP2 was a more effective thickener than Natrosol 250, and using it in combination with Sodium Hydroxide would be a cost-effective option that would eventually lower the cost of production.
