Factors associated with university related violence at Makerere University
Abstract
The study examined the factors associated with University related violence in Makerere
University whose main purpose of this study was to explore the factors associated with
University related violence in Makerere University. It specifically examined the demographic,
socio-economic and behavioural factors influencing University related violence in Makerere
University. This study used a cross sectional descriptive research and/or study design was used
to collect views from respondents and much relevant data as possible as well as analyse all
relevant data from which a sample of 793 was obtained. This was mainly only students from
Makerere university. At analysis, study results show that only age of a student, his or her marital
status, residence, year of study, drug and alcohol use, having unresolved student issues with
staff, fellow students and being aware of violence policies by the student were all statistically
significantly associated with University violence.
The study recommendation, the study recommends that Makerere university should organise
seminars and education programs which are aimed at sensitizing students, empower female
students and enact strict laws to combat violence.
