Maternal health is one of the issues of public health concern globally. According to the world health organization (who), antenatal care (ANC) utilization is regarded as one of the means for addressing maternal health issues. Study purpose: This study sought to understand perceptions among pregnant mothers towards the utilization and access of antenatal care services in public health centres in Kawempe division. The specific objectives of the study were; to find out the perceptions pregnant mothers have towards access and utilization of immunization services, explore perceptions in access and utilization of screening services and vct services. Methodology: The study adopted a cross-sectional exploratory case study design and a qualitative research approach. The study employed a non- probability sampling technique in which data from 23 participants was collected using in-depth interviews, key informant interviews and focus group discussions. Unstructured interview guides were used in the qualitative inquiry process to obtain in-depth information from primary participants. Data from primary and secondary participants was audio recorded, transcribed, read through to ensure familiarization, coded and letter developed into themes related to the study objectives. Findings: The study findings show that pregnant mothers have varying perceptions towards access to and utilization of anc services including generally positive ones such as the view that immunization is a preventive measure against tetanus, that screening during pregnancy enable prior planning for the mother and the baby and others. Conclusion and recommendations: Generally, the study revealed that pregnant mothers in kawempe have positive views on access and utilization of anc services in public health centres. Efforts must therefore be made to strengthen access and utilization of anc services among pregnant mothers through decentralization of services, and mitigating the barriers to access and utilization of anc services.en_US
