Drivers are often inconvenienced whenever they don't find parking attendants at the parking location along the streets of Kampala. The unavailability of parking attendants leads to inaccurate estimation of parking duration by the street parking attendants since they aren't sure when actually the vehicle was parked or left hence overcharging or undercharging parking fees. The drivers may also forget to pay the ticket at the parking slot before departure because they are in a hurry or the parking ticket is misplaced and they lack a record of the outstanding vehicle parking balance. According to the field study conducted for this project; to investigate the challenges in the existing parking system along the streets in Kampala central division, we recommend a Smart City Parking and Payment System (SCPPS) that automates parking-session-start and parking-session-end which addresses major issues in the current street parking system, including over billing, under billing, and street parking-attendant bribes among others. It optimizes the billing and revenue collection processes, making revenue hunt efficient. It gives real-time car parking information such as vehicle and slot counts, available parking space, a convenient payment method, reports and a host of other features.en_US
