dc.description.abstractBackground: In schools some significant efforts like daily picking of school compounds, sweeping of classrooms, offices dormitories, mopping and burning of waste have led to improved management of waste in schools. However, waste disposal and management remain a challenge in most schools due to limited waste collection facilities and limited monitoring of waste disposal. This study was carried out in a certain secondary school in Nansana Municipality, Wakiso district central Uganda. Objective: The Main Objective of the study was to assess the factors affecting waste management practices at a certain secondary in Nansana Municipality. Methodology: This study adopted a case study research design and a combination of both quantitative and qualitative methodologies to research were used. Results: The findings revealed that learners play a major role in the management and disposal of waste within the school premises. It was found that there is regular waste collection in main operating areas of the school that to say; cleaning and collection of waste on a daily basis. Findings also show that there are regular use waste collection facilities like dust bin with the school premises. Conclusion and Recommendations: There is however a great need for intervention by government through initiating the process of developing waste management and disposal guidelines for all schools in the country. This will help schools to come up with proper monitoring and sustainable waste management and disposal interventions.en_US
