Emerging themes in Acholi Fables
Abstract
This ’study’s analysis is based on the idea of work in some of the selected Acholi fables and how this was morally transmitted to the young generation. From the study, it is clearly seen that work was promoted among the Acholi people and laziness was never tolerated, children were given task that befits their age. The study was viewed from a sociological perspective and sampling and interviews were some of the methods used for collecting data. Works of prominent scholars in oral literature such as Ruth Finegan, Okot Bitek, Isodore Okephwo, Nelson Okumu and Austin Bukenya, were used to guide this work. The main (what?) of the research is to teach the youth and open the eyes of people towards the beauty of their culture and also the young ones at school to become self-driven, centred and responsible citizens.
