Factors affecting food security among people living in urban areas: a case study of Kikoni, Makerere
Abstract
Achieving food security in Africa remains a significant challenge for Uganda and for many developing countries. This study was carried out to investigate factors that affect household food security among people living in Kikoni, Makerere, using a cross sectional study design. The study was carried out among 50 respondents that were selected randomly and analysis was done using SPSS.
The study findings revealed that there was a significant relationship between education and household food security. Specifically, food insecurity rates are highest for respondents with low education and households with incomes below the poverty line. There for it should be noted that education of a respondent plays a big role in food security in a household.. The results attest to the high prevalence of food insecurity in Kikoni.
