The main objective of this study was to explore the influence of UACE results on academic performance of university students in addition to other likely factors affecting their performance and therefore determine the factors that influence academic performance at the university. In the Univariate analysis, 57.0% of the students surveyed were males, 33.7% were Protestants by religion, 33.0% were pursuing Bachelor of Business science in Business Statistics, and 67.0% were privately sponsored students. On the variable year of study, 52.0% were in their 3rd year of study, 38 were residing in the university halls of residence. 78.0% of the students were unsatisfied with the way lecturers were conducting lectures at the university, most of the students (44.9%) had done Mathematics, Economics and Geography (MEG) at their A ‘level. On the variable current CGPA, most students (62.0%) had lower CGPA. Most students (39.0%) has a B score in A ‘level Mathematics, 59.0% were studying from a day and boarding school while in their A ‘level, majority (57.0%) had prior knowledge about the course they’re currently doing and finally, 53.0% had their current course s their first choice while filling the PUJAB forms. In the Bivariate analysis, the variables that showed a significant relationship (p<0.05) with the dependent variable were; Type of sponsorship, Residence Status, Students’, A ‘level Mathematics score, Type of high school attended, and the choice of the course which had a moderate relationship (p=0.0767). These variables were used in the multivariate stage of analysis to determine the factors that affect academic performance. In multivariate analysis, the factors that influenced academic performance amongst university students were; having scored a “B” or “C” in A ‘level Mathematics (OR = 0.091, P = 0.044) and (OR = 0.192, P = 0.012), and Residence status whereby staying in hostel/ rental was associated with lower CGPA as compared to staying in Halls (OR = 0.144, P = 0.020). Findings indicate a need to; (i) assess the academic challenges faced by students staying in hostels/rentals. (ii) The university should cooperate with different secondary schools and hold sensitization of the students and advising them to work hard for higher grades putting much emphasis on Mathematics since the grades obtained at the university are highly influenced by the UACE results.en_US
