Exaggeration in selected Lango folktales

Abstract

This research critically analyzes exaggeration in Lango folktales. This study was guided by the following objectives. To analyze exaggeration used in Lango folktales and show how this exaggeration is very important in creating humor and driving the message home to the audience. To examine the different images used in selected Lango folktales and show how they help to bring out exaggeration in folktales and the specific objective; To compile selected Lango folktales, to translate selected Lango folktales into English, to highlight the exaggeration used in them and to examine the different images used and show how they help bring out exaggeration. Under the images used in bringing out exaggeration in Lango folktales only visual and audile images were analyzed.This study also emphasizes the importance of performance in folktales because it helps preserve and transmit the folktales as well. The importance of exaggeration in bringing out humour is analyzed in this study. This study also sets out to add unto the few available studies about exaggeration in lango folktales and this study also recommends that more studies be conducted about exaggeration in folktales and Lango folktales in particular because of its importance.
