| dc.description.abstract | Urbanization is taking place in all parts of the world. In developing countries like Uganda, urban development has been taking place in a haphazard way especially in Kampala satellite towns such as Kisenyi.
This has been attributed to violation of development control regulations. Several development controls tools which provide the set development control regulations have been provided to guide and control development in these urban areas. However, the violation of these development control regulations has persisted resulting to unhealthy environment, lack of
aesthetics, inadequacy of provisions of public utilities and open spaces. The study sought to identify and document previous and current development control tools used to guide and control physical development in Kisenyi Centre, investigate the level of compliance with development control regulations in Kisenyi Centre, assess the factors affecting compliance, establish the effects of the development control tools compliance level to the urban spatial structure and propose possible intervention measures for the effective development control regulations compliance. The study used semi-structured questionnaires to interview 89 developers. The collected data was analysed using Excel in analysing the data. The study found out that; Currently, the main effects of development control regulations’ non-compliance include; environmental degradation, vulnerability to loss of lives and property, congestion, inadequacy of public purpose spaces, loss of desirable neighbourhood character and inadequacy of parking spaces. The study concludes that the main driver of development control regulations’ compliance is the effectiveness of the development proposal evaluation process, development supervision and inspection. | en_US |
