Geomagnetic activity: A case study of solar protons events
Abstract
The project examines geomagnetic activity with the main focused on Solar Proton Events(SPEs) and their impacts on the ozone layer after the solar protons interaction with particles(gases) in our Earth's atmosphere. It examines the eruption of the sun in a solar flares and an associated Coronal Mass Ejections that results in an influx of solar particles in the interplanetary space. This study also examines the penetration of solar Protons into the atmosphere and their effects on the chemical composition from the mesosphere to the stratosphere. The formation of odd nitrogen( NOx = N, NO, NO2) and odd hydrogen ( HOx = H, OH, HO2), which both contribute to ozone loss in the stratosphere and mesosphere is also examined. Last but not least, we investigate the effects of Solar Protons Events on selected geomagnetic indices and on selected solar wind parameters.
