Worldwide, very many road accidents are registered on a daily basis and a big proportion of them is derived from the vice of drunk driving. So, in this project which is the Ethanol detection project using the infrared spectrometer, the main purpose of this project is to be able to detect alcohol levels in the human body using infrared light that is emitted towards the dermal layer, in other words the human skin. This kind of system can be deployed in vehicles such that upon starting a given car, the driver has to place their hand/skin close to the infrared emitter to detect the presence and the alcohol levels in the body. Upon the detection of high alcohol content, then the necessary authorities can then be notified, or even better the vehicle can be deterred from taking off by automatically switching off the engine. This procedure has to continue until when low alcohol levels are detected in the user or driver under question. So this project's main focus is to be able to detect the alcohol levels in the human body using the infrared light that emitted and reflected back to a device called the spectrometer and then be able to present the results.en_US
