A dissertation submitted to the School of Statistics and Planning in partial fulfillment for the award of Bachelor of Science Degree in Quantitative Economics of Makerere Universityen_US
The purpose of this study was to establish the knowledge, attitude and practices of Makerere University students towards the University policies and facilities. It was discovered that students have low knowledge concerning these policies and facilities. Students were also found to have a negative attitude towards the policies and facilities. Academic performance was confirmed to be dependent on practices towards university facilities particularly library use, Government sponsored students were discovered to perform better than private sponsored students and the Guild Constitutional Review was found to have reduced participation in politics. It was also confirmed that university policies and the quality of facilities can cause strikes from students. The University administration should therefore consider increasing orientation of students on policies and facilities to improve their knowledge on these and ultimately improve their attitude towards them. Some policies also need to be revised to make them fair to students. Facilities such as halls of residence should be rehabilitated to improve their status. This will create a conducive learning environment for students and a calm working environment for lecturers and all staff. Students are also encouraged to make good use of university facilities such as the library in order to improve their academic performance.en_US
