dc.description.abstract | This report discusses the development of a smart home technology system for energy management, control, and automation and that can be easily integrated into an already existing residential home electrical installation system with minimal alteration to existing installation. The report highlights the background of smart home technology, with a focus on how it can help Ugandan households use electricity more efficiently, given the unreliable and expensive nature of energy in many African nations, including Uganda. The report identifies the research problem of the high cost of conventional smart home devices and the need for an affordable, easily integrated solution. The specific objectives of the project include eliminating the need for purchasing conventional smart devices, providing remote monitoring and control over appliances, integrating energy-saving capabilities, and providing control from both close and long range using wireless technologies. The report identifies the key questions to be considered during the development of the system, including which wireless module, electronic switches, current meters, and microcontroller are to be used. The significance and justification of the project is also highlighted as a cost friendly system that will be affordable to the average Ugandan homeowner. This project aimed to develop a GSM enabled System for Home Energy Management, Control, and Automation. The developed system monitors and controls energy consumption in a home, providing real-time feedback to the user. It consists of hardware components such as an Arduino board, energy sensors, and a power supply. The software includes algorithms for energy control and communication capabilities with other devices. The project involved research, system design, development, testing, and documentation, with all expected outcomes of accurate measurement, real-time monitoring, energy control, reliability, and safety met during testing. | en_US |
