A traffic aware deployment strategy for UAV-Assisted HetNets
Abstract
The exponential growth of mobile data transmission requirements demands infrastructure upgrades, including the designing of terrestrial heterogeneous networks and network over-dimensioning. However, capital expenditures and operational expenditures costs incurred constrain operator revenues and spatiotemporal traffic patterns make it challenging to meet ever-changing demand effectively. This research utilized system-level simulations to examine the performance of Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) assisted HetNets. A three-tier HetNet is designed, and an optimized deployment algorithm, which utilizes the sum rate as a constraint, is developed. The results obtained demonstrate an enhanced network performance in terms of coverage, sum rate, and capacity when the designed algorithm is employed in deploying the UAV base stations.
