dc.description.abstractIn the last fifteen years the numbers of motorcycles per capita in many developing nations has doubled, they provide an affordable mobility option that is not otherwise available and with prevalence of traffic Jam in most parts of the country due to the increased number of vehicles on the road, Boda bodas have hence become a way out to several Ugandans since they are less affected by traffic jam as well as fast means of transportation. Whereas a lot of literature has been written about boda bodas, their evolution, how to join the business, how they are going digital with evolution of apps like safe boda, bolt, name it, the dangers and challenges in the business, among others that different writers have written about the topic but there is limited information on the factors that influence the earning of boda boda riders in Kampala district despite the increasing investment in bodaboda business. The problem is a number of people especially the youth seek to join the boda boda business with little or no knowledge of the requisites they ought to possess in order for them to earn some livelihood out the business. Objective: The purpose of this study therefore is to determine the factors both qualitative and quantitative that influence the level of earning of Boda Boda riders in Kampala case study of Kikoni Makerere. Method: An experimental and descriptive study design was used and questionnaire was used to collect data. The study population was unknown so Cochran’s formula for sample size determination was used to come with the sample sizes. A total of 103 riders were selected through simple random sampling process. Primary data was collected by use of a structured questionnaire. Data will be analyzed using SPSS and results on descriptive statistics presented in tables, bar charts and pie charts for both univariate and bivariate analysis. Results: It was established that the level of bodaboda business activities were very high in the district and that these activities had a positive significant effect on economic e empowerment. The study suggested that further studies should be done in other districts to establish the nationwide factors that influence the level of earnings of boda riders as well as further research should be done on the causes of prevalent road accidents caused by boda bodas.
