dc.description.abstractThe purpose of the study aimed at the determinants of household sanitation in rural areas of Uganda, a case study of Bukinda sub-county in Rukiga District. The study aims to understand the factors influencing sanitation practices in this specific context. The main objective of the study is “To analyze the determinants of Household Sanitation in rural areas” and the key findings of the study are ”to find out the impact of toilet on house hold sanitation, to determine the relationship between main source of income and household sanitation.to establish how the households head level of education affect household sanitation.” A sample of 154 respondents was sampled using Simple random sampling and binary logistic regression was used to predict the determinants of household sanitation. The summary of findings presented that most of the respondents were males (51.9%) and the females were 48.1%. There was a significant relationship between the type sanitation facility of the household head and whether the household head received any information about sanitation practices since the Pearson Chi-square is less than 0.05.(p value = 0.000). There was a significant relationship between the education levels of the household head and whether the household head received any information about sanitation practices since the Pearson Chi-square is less than 0.05,(p value=0.049). In conclusion, this dissertation underscores the multifaceted nature of household sanitation determinants in rural Uganda, exemplified by the case study of Bukinda Parish in Rukiga District. The findings reveal a complex interplay of socio-economic factors, cultural influences, and infrastructural considerations shaping sanitation practices. As policymakers and practitioners strive to enhance sanitation in rural areas, a nuanced understanding of these determinants becomes imperative. The insights gleaned from this research contribute to the broader discourse on sustainable development, offering practical implications for interventions aimed at fostering improved sanitation within similar context.en_US
