The theme of marriage in selected Gishu fables
Abstract
This study is to examine the theme of marriage in selected Lumasaba fables. The literary devices which have been used to build the theme of marriage in the selected Lumasaba fables include personification where the different animal characters have been attributed to human characters for example marrying , attending parties, cooking and more, symbolism where the different activities in the stories symbolize something in the fables and lastly irony which has been reflected in different ways in the six fables and the examples of irony used in this study include dramatic and verbal irony, all these help in unveiling the information in detail. This study also contains the moral lessons that the six different fables bring out. There is a gap between the studies that have been made by the different scholars since most of the scholars have concentrated so much in making studies on other forms of literature and just a few scholars have made general studies about marriage in fables which limits information in the study of fables. The main method which was used to get information in this research is interview method and this contributed a lot in obtaining information. This study has been carried out in Busano village around the areas of mountain Elgon slope where a few people still believe in the importance of fables.
