Design and fabrication of a waste paper shredder machine.
Abstract
In the current era of technology where everything could be made in a softcopy, hard copies of paper
are still widely used and unavoidable in every industry, every home, and every work office.
However, hard-copy papers eventually need to be disposed in a proper way to not damage the
environment and also to be reused again. The best way is to cut (shred) the paper in small pieces in
order to recycle it easily. In this project, the goal of is to design a paper shredder with an AC motor,
gears and two shafts with blades that are able to cross-cut paper in small, sizes for recycling
purposes. Moreover, some papers are top-secret or classified papers (read & destroy) and shall not
be leaked or read by people whom are not involved. Thus, shredding these papers in small sizes will
be good for recycling purposes and will be excellent for securing classified papers and information
and guarantees nothing will be leaked.
This report deals with a detailed study & design procedure of a paper shredder machine. A detailed
study of various parts of shredder machine like stand (frame), transmission system and cutting
system are made and designed separately. It shows a detailed study of the cutting system of the
shredder machine, that is, types of blades, different profiles, its dimensions, its alignment,
advantages and disadvantages of different types of blades. The report includes problem definition,
objectives, procedure of design with the detailed design of each component of the cutting and
transmission system that includes designing a blade and making certain modifications in it and the
frame. The report has a 3D model of various parts as designed with SOLIDWORKS 23 and the final
assembly of all the parts.
