The main objective of this study was to assess the maintenance management practices on public facilities. To guide the research, research questions were raised and answered and a quantitative research design was adopted for this study. A Research designed questionnaire entitled “Maintenance practices on public facilities” was used to collect relevant data for respondents. Condition rating index was used to assess the condition of different components that make up facilities at Mandela National Stadium. The data got was analyzed using descriptive statistics for mean and standard deviations. From the condition rating analysis, it was reported that most prominent defects on Mandela included cracks on the walls and floors rusty but not leaking roofs, floors and doors which are partly broken. Corrective maintenance was the most employed practice used on Mandela National stadium followed by repairs having µ=3.60 and σ=0.31 followed by repairs with µ=3.28 and σ=0.16. Lack of maintenance policy was the least with 44.4% response. Among the challenges affecting the applicability of maintenance management, financial issues were extremely faced, followed by poor stakeholder communication. From the analysis poor training, regular inspection, installing safety equipment sufficient resources for proper maintenance management regular inspections should be carried out. The study also recommended that the government should allocate sufficient resources for proper maintenance of the stadium, regular inspections should be done and it should also involve the community in determining the spaces to be maintaining. The study also recommended that the government should set strict laws and regulations to regulate the maintenance of both public and private school buildings by developing sub county building and maintenance .en_US
