The factors that determine the number of children ever born of a woman in Uganda: a case study of Nsangi Sub-county Wakiso District.
Abstract
Uganda is known as one of the many African countries with a high fertility rate. The objective of the
study to examine the factors that determine the number of children ever born of a woman in Uganda.
The study was carried out in Nsangi Sub-county, Wakiso district in Uganda on women between 15
to 49 years where a total of 240 respondents were interviewed and a simple random sampling was
used to select respondents from the area of study.
The study was carried out using three levels of analysis which included univariate, bivariate and
multivariate analysis. The results showed that age at first marriage (P=0.000), SDA (P=0.039) and
children living (P=0.000) significantly predicted the number of children ever born of a woman in
Uganda
Therefore the government should invest more in girl child education so that girls spend more years
in school as this reduces the number of children ever born, encourage family planning and provided
all the things needed and finally teaching women about its use in order to reduce on the number of
children ever born of a woman.
