In Kamuli district, many people are peasants and therefore they do not have stable sources of income and this greatly affects their well-being. These therefore usually depend on small savings and loans from SACCOs to meet their basic needs. However, many people are not always successful in obtaining credit from the SACCOs. The main objective of the study was to investigate the factors that affect access to credit facilities by women in Kamuli district. The study was guided by the following hypotheses; there is no association between age, marital status, occupation, and acquisition of collateral security with access to credit facilities. The study used a cross sectional study design and binary logistic regression was used to examine the factors that influence credit access among women in Kamuli district. The results show that majority of the women, (92.6%) had access to credit facilities. The major factors that contributed to women’s accesses to credit were marital status, in particular widowed (OR=8.707, P = 0.003) and singles (OR=5.140, P=0.023), occupation in particular peasants (OR=10.28, P = 0.001), collateral security (OR=8.00, P = 0.000). But access to credit facilities has a negative association with age, education level, dependents, income, and period of membership. Based on the findings, the study recommended the government to establish structures in place that can bring financial institutions much closer to the people so as to reduce the transaction costs that include transport to and from the financial institutions and this is because it was observed that people travel about 8 kilometers to the nearest financial institutions from their places of residence. The government should also fund SACCOs to increase their competitive nature and reduce on interest rates for people to access credit.en_US
