The construction industry has employed various human resource management practices among which include; training, compensation and awards, health and safety, employee engagement and supervision to ensure that workers are productive as they carry out the tasks assigned to them. Regardless of all these practices being employed, the productivity of workers has still not been maximised leaving the human resource managers with no clear answers as to what practices can be used to maximize the productivity of their workers on site. The productivity of workers on site is crucial because it affects the period of any project as it may lead to its delay or early completion. This also affects the cost and quality of the project in the long run. The research study sought to acquire knowledge on the role of human resource management practices in enhancing the productivity of workers in the construction industry of Kampala. To achieve this, the following objectives were set; i. To identify the current state of human resource management practices in the construction industry. ii. To explore the role of motivation in enhancing productivity as a human resource management tool. iii. To analyze the challenges and opportunities of implementing effective human resource management practices in the construction industry. iv. To develop recommendations for improving human resource management practices and enhancing productivity in the construction industry. A quantitative approach to data analysis was used for the study. The data collected was edited, sorted and organized. Microsoft Word and Excel were then used to analyse the data. Percentages and tables were used to analyse the results. The results from the analyses provided the basis for finding out the human resource management practices employed in the industry and the factors that motivate workers to be productive in the work they carry out on sites.en_US
