Factors affecting construction debris management in Kampala.

Abstract

Construction debris management is a critical aspect of sustainable development, and effective management practices are necessary to reduce the negative environmental impacts of construction activities. This study aimed to investigate the current state of construction debris management in Kampala, Uganda. The data was collected through a survey questionnaire administered to construction professionals, and descriptive statistics and Cronbach's alpha reliability analysis were used to analyze the data. The results showed that although most construction companies in Kampala were moderately following proper procedures for managing and disposing of construction debris, there were still inefficiencies in the management practices, particularly in the areas of reuse and recycling of construction debris. The study also found that confidence in the ability of current practices to sustainably handle future construction projects was moderate. Based on these findings, recommendations were made for researchers, professionals, and government authorities to improve construction debris management practices in Kampala. Overall, this study highlights the need for more attention and resources to be devoted to construction debris management in Kampala, as it has significant implications for sustainable development in the city.
