This water resources availability assessment report presents a comprehensive analysis of the current and future state of water resources in the river Mayanja catchment. The study aims to provide an understanding of the availability and sustainability of water sources, as well as the potential challenges and opportunities for their management. The assessment incorporates various data sources, including hydrological records, population demographics, land use patterns, and climate projections.
The report begins with an overview of the study area's geography and population demographic to gain an understanding of the demand for water. It assesses the current water demand, identifies the major sectors contributing to water consumption, such as agriculture, industry, and domestic use, and outlines the objectives of the study.
The report also delves into the projected future water demand, considering population growth, urbanization, and industrial expansion scenarios. It examines the potential effects of climate change on water availability, including alterations in precipitation patterns, increased evaporation rates, and changes in river flows. This analysis aids in identifying vulnerabilities and developing adaptive strategies to ensure sustainable water management in the face of changing environmental conditions.
The methodology outlines the various steps taken to achieve the objectives of the study. Data collection, delineation of the catchment and sub catchments using ArcGIS and HEC-HMS software, hydrological modelling of the river using HEC-HMS-SMA and predicting future hydrometeorological parameters for determining water balance in the catchment.
The results are then visualized in form of graphs, tables and interpreted and a discussion of the findings included as well. Based on the findings, the report presents a range of recommended measures and interventions to enhance water resource sustainability.
Ultimately, this water resources assessment report serves as a valuable resource for policymakers, water resource managers and stakeholders involved in the sustainable development and conservation of water resources.
