Analyzing the effect of various forms of motivation on workers' productivity on site.
Abstract
This study presents an analysis of the effect of various forms of motivation on workers'
productivity on construction sites. Motivation is the internal or external drive that initiates,
directs and sustains behaviour towards the attainment of a goal or the fulfillment of a need.
Productivity is the measure of output or results achieved in relation to the resources utilized in a
given task, project or work environment.
The research methodology involves a comprehensive literature review to identify existing
motivation methods in the construction industry. Subsequently, a combination of physical and
online interviews was conducted to extract the key success factors associated with the identified
motivational methods. Finally, an experiment was conducted to examine the variations in
productivity resulting from the application of different motivational methods to workers on
construction sites.
The literature review provided a theoretical foundation by exploring established motivation
methods and their applicability in the construction context. It helps identify the most relevant and
effective motivation strategies that have been implemented in the industry.
To capture real-life experiences and gather insights, both physical and online interviews were
conducted with experienced personnel who apply the motivational methods in different
management styles. These interviews aimed to identify the key success factors associated with
the motivational methods identified during the literature review. The interviews provide
qualitative data that shed light on the practical implementation of motivation methods and their
impact on workers' productivity.
The experiment was designed and carried out to investigate how different motivational methods
affect workers' productivity on construction sites. This experimental approach allowed for the
direct observation and measurement of productivity levels under varying motivational
conditions. By comparing the results of the experiment, the study provided empirical evidence
on the effectiveness of different motivational methods.
The combined findings from the literature review, interviews, and experiment contribute to a
comprehensive understanding of the relationship between motivation and productivity in the
construction industry. The study highlights the key success factors of various motivational
methods and their varying effects on workers' productivity. This information is crucial for
construction industry stakeholders, enabling them to design and implement tailored motivation
strategies that positively impact productivity on construction sites.
