dc.description.abstractThe study is on the relationship between physical planning and physical development in the suburbs of Masaka city via a case study of Nyendo ward and aimed at exploring the challenges of physical planning and development control in rapidly urbanizing neighborhoods. Assessing the relationship between physical planning and development control was through examining the existing physical planning and development control practices. This was to see what is missing and establish new designs or strategies to mitigate those challenges. The research study comprises of five chapters: chapter one addressing a brief introduction to the history and background of the study and the study area and characteristics within which a problem statement is extracted. Chapter two reviews literature on physical planning and development control practices and their challenges as well from various scholars and authors in relation to the problem statement. This chapter deals with the meaning of everything in the research study and content. Chapter three addresses the various methods used to collect relevant data from the field surveys and purposely selected personnel. To achieve the intentions of this research, several methods and tools were employed including oral interviews, questionnaires, observation, photography and case studies. Chapter four comprise of findings and discussions in relation to the case studies. Findings were addressed in line of the objectives of the study each was discussed in relation to the problem statement and the research questions. Chapter five looked at conclusions and recommendations drawn from the research. Interviews, questionnaires and surveys regarding plan approval and other development control practices were carried out. The research also introduces and acknowledge potential positiveoutcomes of the current physical planning and development control practices if they are well enforced and then explore the concepts of managing the development in development regulations provision. The result show inadequacy of personnel in the development control team and ignorance about physical planning and development control practices. From findings of this study, the study recommends that sensitization as the major way to establish a good town that is orderly and consists of various physical developments, categories of people, and businesses and livable for everyone.en_US
