Background: Early sexual debut among adolescents is a global public health concern, with profound implications for maternal and child health. This study investigates the factors contributing to early sexual debut among adolescents in Iganga District, Uganda, a region grappling with high rates of adolescent sexual activity and its associated risks. Methods: Secondary data from a survey conducted by the African Youth Alliance (AYA) in Iganga District was analyzed. The dataset included responses from 464 households with adolescents aged 05-21. Various independent variables, such as education level, place of residence, marital status, parental education levels, religion, and living arrangements, were examined in relation to the dependent variable, early sexual debut. Results: Of the adolescents surveyed, 43.3% had experienced sexual intercourse, with significant variations by gender, education level, marital status, and other factors. Multivariate analysis revealed that residence (rural), education level (primary and secondary), and the father being alive were significant predictors of delayed sexual debut. Conclusion: Early sexual debut remains a significant concern in Iganga District, with rural adolescents and those with lower education levels at higher risk. Comprehensive strategies are needed to address this issue, including education programs, increased support for single mothers, community awareness campaigns, and the enforcement of laws against harmful cultural practices.
