| dc.description.abstract | This study sets to examine the representation of children in Ankole folktales, a collection of traditional stories from the Ankole region of Uganda. The study aims to contribute to a broader understanding of the representation of children in folk literature and to highlight the ways in which Ankole folktales reflect the cultural and historical traditions of the region.
The study uses a thematic analysis to analyze a sample of Ankole folktales, with a focus on identifying the ways in which children are portrayed in these narratives. The sample is drawn from a range of sources, including published collections of Ankole folktales and recordings of oral traditions obtained from local communities. The analysis is conducted using a qualitative approach, which involves a close reading of the selected folktales to identify patterns and themes related to the representation of children. The study also draws on secondary sources, such as scholarly articles and historical texts, to provide context and background information on the cultural and historical factors that may have influenced the portrayal of children in Ankole folktales. To ensure the reliability and validity of the analysis, the study employs a rigorous and transparent methodology. The researchers establish clear criteria for the selection of the sample, and document the process of selecting and analyzing the folktales in detail. The analysis is conducted by a team of researchers with diverse backgrounds and perspectives, to ensure that a range of perspectives are considered in the interpretation of the data.
The findings of the study are disseminated through academic publications and presentations, as well as through community engagement activities, to ensure that the results are accessible and relevant to a wide range of audiences. Therefore, the study has practical implications for promoting the well-being of children by identifying positive representations of children in Ankole folktales and highlighting areas where improvement is needed.
