G emissions from the combustion of woody biomass is a global concern for policymakers and academia. Heating with woody biomass at Makerere University is associated with known environmental concerns that contribute to climate change and also affect air quality. However, the GHG emissions during the combustion of woody biomass at Makerere University are yet to be quantified. This study aimed to quantify the emissions released from burning woody biomass for heating at Makerere University and assess their impact on the environment. The results of the study show that Makerere University is estimated to consume 270 metric tons of woody biomass annually, realizing 1,017.2 metric tons CO2eq in the atmosphere. The study recommends that Makerere University establish a policy framework that regulates woody biomass usage and addresses GHG emissions. This research provides valuable insights into the environmental impact of woody biomass combustion and also informs stakeholders, strategies to mitigate negative effects arising from woody biomass combustion.en_US
