Assessment of the role of education in the economic development of Uganda. A case study of Kawempe division
Abstract
The study assessed the role of education to the level of economic development in Kawempe division, Uganda. The study based on the following objectives: to determine the impact of literacy levels on economic development, to examine the effect of occupation of an individual on economic development, to determine the relationship between the quality of education and economic development, to determine the impact of the nature of education on economic development. The study adapted a cross sectional survey design where qualitative and quantitative approaches were used. In this study a total number of 100 respondents were expected and all the 100 were acquired giving a response rate of 100%. The data was collected using questionnaires and interviews and analysis was done using Pearson correlation coefficients, chi-square and multinomial logistic regression. It was revealed that nature of education significantly influenced the level of economic development of Uganda, other factors that were found to influence the level of economic development were the quality of education, and the occupation of individuals. It was concluded that there is need for government effort to improve education.
