The role of pressure in Makerere University guild elections 2023
Abstract
The purpose of this dissertation is to explore and describe” the role pressure in Makerere university guild elections 2023”. Qualitive approach was chosen for the study with reference to the qualitive research design. The data were collected by means of semi structured interviews, focused group discussion, field observation which targeted lecturers and students. The dissertation presents reviews of different scholars who describe and explain the role of pressure in an election and how it affects both the voters and candidates but most especially their responses. Furthermore, the dissertation presents the analysis of data and findings where respondents provided their views on the role of pressure in the Makerere university guild elections 2023 and how both lecturers and students responded. Finally, recommendations were drawn thus professional awareness, role of leadership, renewed vision and more research to be instituted in the Makerere guild elections. The conclusion was made that the data analysis reveals that pressure played a significant role in the Makerere University guild elections of Guild aspirants employed persuasive tactics, and students experienced varying degrees of pressure from multiple sources. The influence of political party affiliations, coupled with the potential benefits associated with winning the elections, intensified the competition and pressure among the aspirants.
