Geological mapping project report of Area I, Gayaza, Isingiro district, Western Uganda
Abstract
This report is an account of the field mapping exercise in Igayaza, Isingiro District in Uganda from 1st February, 2022 to 8th February, 2022 whose main objective was to carry out and acquire skills in field geological mapping in a practical setting in mineral exploration alongside specific objectives like using several geological tools, identifying outcrops, studying lithology and mineralogy among others. This was done through use of various tools like GPS, compass, hammer among others and field mapping techniques like traversing, following contacts, exposure or green line mapping and others as discussed in chapter 2.
These enabled identification of outcrops, their description, structural geology, metamorphism and economic importance to identify different lithologies like phyllites, quartzites, shale, granite and breccia at mapped stations, structures, pick samples for petrographic analysis as discussed in chapter 5 and generate a geological map, cross sections and stereonets to deduce the stratigraphic succession and geological of the area.
