Evaluation of user satisfaction in new office building facilities in Uganda, a case study of new office blocks in Kampala
Abstract
The quality of office building facilities has a major effect on the overall quality of life of staff and
eventually affects their performance. With well-developed work space, workers are comfortable
and enjoy their work while focusing on achievement of thecompany objectives whereas the
reverse is true. Therefore, the impact of a poor working environment is only felt when the return
on workers is decreasing and so there is always a need for employees to consider carrying out user
satisfaction measurement todetermine whether their staff is satisfied or dissatisfied with their
working environment.
Most researchers have tried to find out the needs and expectations of workers relating them to the
basic needs of life to ensure employee welfare while occupying the building. For office space in
Kampala, there is currently a high supply with more office building facilities being constructed to
provide office space for the various organizations, government agencies and companies. Therefore
there is need to assess the performance of these buildings to determine whether they meet the
expectations of users through a post occupancy evaluation.
Questionnaires with Post Occupancy Evaluation attributes were used in this research to carryout
the evaluation of user satisfaction in these office building facilities.
