Plastic waste pollution is a pressing global issue, carrying significant consequences for the environment and human well-being. This research delves into the sources, challenges, and repercussions of plastic waste pollution in Laroo Division, Gulu City. A cross-sectional survey was conducted using a questionnaire to obtain quantitative data about plastic waste pollution and qualitative data obtained through Key Informants Interviews. The survey reveals that a substantial portion of respondents engage with plastic products, with many using them regularly. Plastic waste is an everyday presence in Laroo, manifesting as littered streets and discarded items. The most common types of plastic waste were plastic bottles, polythene and plastic bags. The primary sources of this pollution were shops, markets, beverage companies, and events and festivals. The research highlights the lack of recycling facilities and limited environmental concern by the residents as some of the predominant constraints to proper plastic waste disposal in the community. Furthermore, while regulations and policies exist, their effectiveness is widely questioned towards proper plastic waste disposal. The results also revealed that limited efforts to proper plastic waste disposal were more likely among market vendors compared to any other occupation or type of business, but if information about proper plastic waste disposal methods was sought, it would enhance their efforts to dispose of plastic waste. Notably, there is a heightened level of concern among Laroo's residents regarding the adverse impacts of plastic waste pollution. Many perceive negative health implications, such as water contamination, vector-borne diseases, and respiratory issues. Additionally, plastic waste pollution is seen as a detriment to wildlife, quality of life, and land quality in Laroo. In light of these findings, it is evident that the issue of plastic waste pollution in Laroo division is multifaceted. This research emphasizes the critical need for robust plastic waste management strategies through provision of more accessible disposal options, enhanced public awareness campaigns, and rigorous regulation enforcement to mitigate the environmental and health risks posed by plastic waste pollution in the community.en_US
