A theme of peace and conflict resolution in selected Runyankore folktales and fables
Abstract
This study analyzes the theme of peace and conflict resolution in Runyankore folktales and fables. The study is guided by two main objectives; to analyze the effectiveness of irony in representing conflict in the selected folktales and to examine how characterization and plot represent conflict and their resolution. Most conflicts captured in Runyankore folktales rotate on; greed, malice, hypocrisy, betrayal and disobedience. The study focuses on the two theories of irony that is the echoic mention theory and the pretense theory of irony and three types of irony to discuss conflict and its resolution in the selected folktales and fables.
