The study aimed at determining the cause of school dropout based on the household characteristics in Kyebando parish, Wakiso district. School dropout remains a critical challenge in Kyebando parish and understanding the factors driving this issue is imperative for effective interventions. Using a well-structured questionnaire, data was collected from a sample of 96 households that was constructed by use of Cochran’s formula. The household characteristics investigated include; household gender, household age household size, HHH education level household head ownership, household head attitude towards education and household head income. Through quantitative analysis, with the use of Pearson Correlation coefficient analysis and Multiple linear regression, the research uncovered significant associations and provided insights into the household characteristics that affect student’s dropouts. It was found out that household head age, household head education level (UCE and primary), household size and marital status (widowed household heads) were statistically significant with school dropout from the econometrics analysis (F = 26.16 and P-value =0.00 < 0.05) at a 95% confidence level. On the other hand, household head gender, household home ownership, household head attitude towards education and household head income were not significant with school dropout. The study was able to fill in the knowledge gap and insights concerning school drops based on household characteristics. It clearly sighted out the major household characteristics and the strength of their impact. The study therefore was able to provide evidence-based recommendations on how policy makers, institutions and the private sector can reduce school dropout hence improving education further leading to human capital development. These included, financial literacy and retirement planning, creating community support organization networks, family size- adjusted scholarships and adult education.en_US
