Trend analysis of sugar exports in Uganda from 2011 to 2021
Abstract
The objective of this study was to examine the trend of sugar exports from Uganda to the world market, determine whether sugar exports are seasonal or not and to determine the growth of sugar exports in Uganda from 2011 to 2021.
The analysis was made on amount of sugar exported from Uganda to the world market in metric tones and value of sugar exports from Uganda to the world market in thousand US dollars which is based on secondary data collected from Uganda bureau of statistics after it was published.
The analysis was done using SPSS, STATA, MICROSOFT EXCEL at both univariate and bivariate levels where frequency distributions, graphs and various tests were carried out.
This study clearly shows that there is an irregular trend in sugar exports from Uganda. It also shows that there is seasonality in sugar exports from Uganda and a very high growth rate of sugar exports about 95.7458% for the period of 2011 to 2021. Sugar exports from Uganda are not only determined by time but also there are other factors which need to be put into consideration in order to draw further conclusions. Averagely the sugar industry in Uganda provides a good a good percentage to the total exports of about 5.838708106 per annum for the recent 12 years. This has promoted economic growth in country.
