Impact of sexual harassment on academic performance of student. A case study of Makerere University
Abstract
This study was about the impact of sexual harassment on academic performance amongst Makerere university students. The main objective of the study was to determine the impact of sexual harassment on academic performance, the sub objectives included the determining status quo of sexual harassment at Makerere University and seeking possible solutions to sexual harassment. The methodology used in the study included frequencies and percentages at univariate level, cross tabulation and independent sample t test were performed at bivariate level.
The key findings from the Bivariate level of analysis indicated that sexual Harassment has as impact on the academic performance as indicated by the statistically significant difference in the students’ CGPA of those that were never sexually harassed and those that were indeed harassed. The researcher therefore recommends the university council to raise awareness and implement anti-harassment policies. The researcher as well recommends Makerere University should establish support mechanisms, such as counseling services and confidential reporting channels, to assist victims of sexual harassment
