Child upbringing
Abstract
My topic of research is "Analysis of the theme child upbringing in Ateso proverbs." This study is based on the different themes found in Ateso proverbs. Among the Itesots, oral literature has been part of culture. These are in form of fables, riddles, proverbs, tongue twisters, folk songs and folk tales. These prose narratives have been used for a long time among the Itesots. Stories are told from generation to generation. In most cases they are told by the old people like grandparents to their children and grandchildren like around a fire place as they drink a local brew. These stories vary from society to society since they are told in different ways. They are mostly performed among a big or small number of people and all these forms of oral literature are performed between the performer and the audience. Proverbs simply means a way of expressing a well-known truth based on common senses and experiences. They are usually taken to be imbedded with ancestral wisdom, passed down from generation to generation. However, different scholars have various definitions of proverbs with similar meaning.
