This research study investigates the vulnerability of housing infrastructure in Bwaise, a low-income area prone to frequent and severe flooding. The study explores coping strategies used by locals up to this far, flood-resistant construction techniques suitable for this context, the socio-economic factors affecting their implementation and the causes and impact of floods on housing infrastructure. Findings reveal that Bwaise’s housing infrastructure is susceptible to flooding due to inadequate drainage systems and other factors. Current coping strategies have proved ineffective, necessitating the identification of alternative flood resistant construction techniques. The recommended techniques include elevating buildings above floodplains, applying waterproofing measures, and establishing proper drainage systems. However socio-economic constraints hinder the implementation of these techniques, as low-income households lack financial resources and technical knowledge alongside limited access to affordable materials and skilled labour. To address these challenges the study proposes several recommendations. Implementing flood-resistant construction techniques and addressing socio-economic barriers are essential to enhance the resilience of housing infrastructure in Bwaise, reducing impact of floods and improving living conditions. These findings emphasize the urgent need for comprehensive actions to protect low-income communities from devastating consequences of flooding.en_US
