Use of Banana peelings as an adsorbent in the removal of Cadmium from wastewater.
Abstract
The increasing consumption of water worldwide has led to the accumulation of cadmium heavy metal in water steams due to increasing human activities such as industrialization. This has drawn attention to the study of adsorbents to adsorb the metal ion. This study is conducted on banana peels as an adsorbent for the removal of cadmium ions from wastewater using batch
experiments to evaluate the maximum adsorption capacity of dried banana peels. The effects of various parents such as pH, adsorbent dose, contact time and agitation were studied. Good results were obtained at pH 7, 3g dosage, 75 minutes contact time and 240rpm using an Atomic Absorption spectrophotometer. The results indicate that banana peels have great potential to
remove cadmium ions from wastewater. Also, it will create cheap and efficient methods in treating wastewater.
