Purpose and meaning of imagery in selected Sabiny Riddles
Abstract
This research analyses the purpose and meaning of Imagery in selected Sabiny riddles, a highland Nilotic tribe from the eastern part of Uganda. To establish this, the researcher sampled elderly Sabiny people closely directed by the earlier by the earlier set research objectives. Participatory observation was also used by the each researcher so as to collect sufficient data pertaining riddles. In conclusion this abstract offers insights into the meaning and purpose of imagery in selected Sabiny riddles. It highlights the role of imagery as a cultural preservation tool, a metaphorical language for expressing abstract concept and means of fostering social cohesion and intellectual development. The study provides the foundation for further research in to the rich cultural heritage of the Sabiny people and the importance of imagery in their oral tradition. These manifestations were graded into four key categories; visual imagery, auditory imagery, tactile, olfactory, gustatory and motile imagery all of which being language elements that are vital in making out purpose and meaning of imagery.
