An investigation into the influence of politics on physical development in central division of Kampala city.
Abstract
This Dissertation sets out an investigation into the influence of politics on physical planning in Kampala Central Division. The study was carried out in Kampala City zeroing on Central division. The study was on the investigating into the influence of politics on physical planning and it goes ahead to identify and develop a framework on how to harmonize politics with physical planning in Kampala City.
The study was carried out after the increasing instances of politicians/politics interfering with the work of physical planning like during the operation of chasing street vendors from all roads, street children, conflict for spaces between pedestrians, bodabodas and cars, constructions in ecological sensitive areas and the issue of public open spaces. Having analyzed this aspect, the study, the study comes out with recommendations on how politics can support physical planning activities in Kampala City.
Chapter two reviews the previous literature of various scholars on about politics and planning, different sources were visited and cited including new vision group for local data. The literature review was review in line with the research objectives
Chapter three provides for ways on how information for writing the dissertation was obtained through field surveys carried out in the study area different research methods have been used ranging from interviewing people using a designed research interviewer guide. Informal and formal interviews were also conducted, the researcher also attended one of the Physical planning committee at central division, and more information was gotten online from different websites.
Chapter four gives a full account for data analysis and presentation of the data collected in order to have a full understanding the influence of politics and planning in Kampala Central division. The findings showed there was a big gap between the technical team and the politicians also a lot of corruption and bribery. With implications like delaying the planning processes, stiff competition for space in the city and improper planning.
Chapter five presents the recommendations and conclusions put forward in order to develop a framework that can harmonize politics and physical planning.
