dc.description.abstractThis study aimed at assessing the factors leading to increased levels of unemployment among the youths in Kampala district in Keti Falawo, Kawempe division. The study was guided by two specific objectives, and these included to identify the relationship between demographic factors and level of youth unemployment in Kampala and identify the relationship between social economic factors and level of youth unemployment in Kampala. The study used primary data obtained from a survey carried out among the youth of Keti Falawo, Kawempe in Kampala district. Data obtained was analyzed using STATA version 15.0 software at univariate, bivariate and multivariate level. The study findings revealed that education level influences employment among youths in Keti Falawo, Kampala and the youths who had attained tertiary education were more likely to be employed as compared to their counterparts who had attained only secondary education and alternatively youth who were aged 27-29, got their incomes from monthly incomes were less likely to be unemployed. The study further revealed that age influences employment status of the youths and the majority of those aged between 15-21 years were unemployed compared to those aged between 22-26 years and regarding income source, of the youths who got their incomes from businesses believed they were unemployed and over half of those who got their incomes from salaries were employed and whereas all those who got their incomes from other sources like siblings were unemployed. Basing on the study findings, the study recommended the following that the government of Uganda should design programs like the student loan scheme, district quota system and many more to promote skills among the youths and thus promote their employability in the job market. The government of Uganda should also encourage the study of science courses and vocational the education system to impart hand on skills on to the students to promote job creation and thus future employability and furthermore the government should encourage her citizens by way of offering them collateral free easy to access loans to enable them startup businesses to be a source of self-employment for her population.en_US
