Factors influencing access to internet in rural areas: case study of Toro region
Abstract
This study is about analyzing the factors that influence the use of internet among the Toro households in Uganda using the UNHS 2019/2020. The specific objectives of this study were to make an analysis on the demographic, economic and social factors that influence the use of internet among the Toro households in Uganda. Secondary data of the Uganda National Household Survey 2019/2020 was got from the Uganda Bureau of Statistics (UBOS) and used for analysis. Data was entered and analyzed using excels and STATA ver.15 and was summarized using frequency tables, chi squares and m logit models. This analysis helped to describe the relationships among the different factors influencing the use of internet. The study found out that there was a positive relationship between sex, place of residence, working status, education level and sim cards used and use of internet among the Toro households in Uganda at 5% level of significance. The study revealed that more women than men that took part in the survey. The study also revealed that majority of the Toro households don’t use the internet and had acquired primary level of education.
