At the first level of analysis, respondents that attained some primary education are at 40.3%, with some secondary education and no formal education being at 18.8% and post-secondary plus having the smallest number of 5.5%. Findings of the study also revealed that, most of the respondents are married monogamously and living together at 52.2%, while, the never married and divorced were at 22.8% and 7.2% respectively. Findings from the study showed that majority of the respondents are males at 54.5% with the females being at 45.5%. The study also reports that respondents between the ages of 26-40 were at 43%, 41-55 at 15.3 and those above 55 being at 3.8% At the second level of analysis, chi-square tests were used to establish the relationship between dependent and independent variables, a highly significant relationship was found to exist between the independent variables and the dependent variable. That is to say variables such as marital status, education attainment, wealth index, household size, tenure of dwelling, nature of kitchen were significant with p-value <0.05. At third level of analysis (multivariate), results from the study show that there was a significant relationship between the wealth index, age of the household members, level of education attained by the household heads and the occupancy tenancy. This is evidenced by Narasimha and Reddy (2007) in India, Mekonnen and Köhlin (2008) in urban Ethiopia, Farsi et al.(2007), Njong and Johannes (2011) and Heltberg (2004; 2005) are some of the examples which underline the importance of education or awareness in reducing the demand for traditional fuels such as firewood. However, factors such as the gender, nature of the kitchen had no significant relationship with the dependent variableen_US
